The Out of the Cold Programme

For over 18 years, St. Andrew's Church has been actively involved in the 'Out of the Cold' programme, which provides food, support, clothing and help to some of Toronto's poor, homeless, troubled and hungry citizens.

The programme is entirely run by volunteers, with the result that all financial contributions towards the programme go directly to feeding and caring for our guests.  Each week, volunteers offer their time, their energy and their compassion preparing and serving food, and seeking to provide a dignified and welcoming atmosphere.

There are many different ways to get involved in this important programme -- from helping with the meal preparation (on Sunday afternoons and Mondays); to preparing the Great Hall for the dinner; to meeting and serving the guests; to helping with the clean up; to participating in the Tuesday morning 'crew' .  In these and in many other ways, it is always possible to find a way to offer your time and energy.

From November - April, a large dinner is served on Monday nights, often with over 200 guests.

On Tuesday mornings, a separate crew of volunteers comes in to serve a hot cooked breakfast to the programme's guests.  On Tuesday morning, there are usually about 100 - 130 guests.
