1) Welcome to Stephen Mutavdzija, Theological Field Education Student

Last Sunday, during worship, we welcomed Stephen Mutavdzija, who will be sharing in the life and ministry of St. Andrew's over the coming year.  An important part of a student's seminary training is a placement with a congregation -- during which they are invited to participate in the leadership of worship, learn more about pastoral care, and explore other dimensions of congregational ministry.

Stephen Mutavdzija is a student in his second year of study at Knox College.  Prior to coming to Knox, Stephen spent much of his time leading small groups in youth and young adult ministries.  He has a background in computer science and philosophy, and in his spare time enjoys playing sports and listening to live jazz.  During the next eight months Stephen will be doing his Theological Field Education placement at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and will be engaged in its different ministries.  Stephen shares that he is excited to be here and looks forward to participating in our community life.

Welcome, Stephen!

2)  St. Andrew's Book Club - Thursday, September 24th

Book cover

The next meeting of the St. Andrew's Book Club will be held on Thursday, September 24th at 7 p.m. in the Board Room.  The selection for the September meeting is The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows.  Library Journal said:  "this is a warm, funny, tender, and thoroughly entertaining celebration of the power of the written word."  There's still time to read it if you haven't started it yet!  Everyone is welcome to attend.

3)  SAGA Meeting & Pot Luck Dinner - Friday, September 25th

SAGA meetings will resume on Friday, when the topic for discussion will be   "Newest Medical Advice or Traditional Wisdom?"

The group usually begins gathering at about 5:45 p.m. in the Great Hall.  A delicious Pot Luck dinner starts at 6:30.   Please come early so we can share stories about our summer.   Bring pictures, if you'd like to share them.

After our Pot Luck Dinner, we will share our experiences of how we handle endless new data about medical research.    Have you tried traditional treatments?  Have you had positive or negative results after changing your lifestyle?  We would like to hear about it.

Everyone is welcome!

4) Annual Congregational Barbecue - This Sunday!

This year's barbecue will be held on Sunday, September 27th after worship service.  It's a great opportunity to enjoy a meal together and to get to know each other better.  Everyone is welcome!
