Brian Birdsell is this week's contributor to 'Faces of Faith'.

Again, there are a few minor road closures that will necessitate a carefully planned route to our service on Sunday.  Details about the CIBC Run for the Cure can be found here. As well, please note that the Gardiner Expressway will be closed (eastbound only) from Carlaw Ave. to the Humber River for fall maintenance.

The Catechism This Week…

Question 14 -- In calling God “Father” do we mean that God is male?

Earlier this year, we began a weekly journey through a recent catechism produced by the Church Doctrine Committee of the Presbyterian Church in Canada.  The present section concerns the various phrases and assertions in the Apostles' Creed, which is sometimes viewed as a concise summary of the substance of the Christian faith.

Please remember, when reading the catechism, that it is best experienced by contemplating the question before moving too quickly to consider the suggested response.  How would you answer this question?

The Catechism's response to Question 14

No. God is Spirit and is neither male nor female. Scripture speaks of God as Father but also represents God as saying, “As a mother comforts her child, I will comfort you” (Isaiah 66:13). God’s fatherhood is the source and pattern for human fatherhood and motherhood.
