The Catechism This Week…
Question 12 - What do we believe when we say, “I believe in God, the Father almighty”?
Earlier this summer, we began a weekly journey through a recent catechism produced by the Church Doctrine Committee of the Presbyterian Church in Canada. The present section concerns the various phrases and assertions in the Apostles' Creed, which is sometimes viewed as a concise summary of the substance of the Christian faith.
Please remember, when reading the catechism, that it is best experienced by contemplating the question before moving too quickly to consider the suggested response. How would you answer this question?
The Catechism's response to Question 12 Believing is more than agreeing that there is a Supreme Being. In believing we trust in and commit ourselves to the God who is declared in the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments and revealed in Jesus Christ. The Creed affirms that God is the Father and that God is almighty. |
