The Catechism This Week… Last
week, we began our journey through the recent Presbyterian Church in Canada
catechism. Please remember, when
reading the catechism, that it is best experienced by contemplating the question before moving too quickly to
consider the suggested response. In
other words, let the question live within you…

Question 2: We know God in Jesus Christ witnessed to
in scripture. We love and serve God in worship and in the care and compassion
we show for all creation. Worship draws us into the work of Christ. In union
with him we pray and work for the healing and salvation of the world. Christ
calls us to a life of kindness and generosity. How can we love God, whom we
cannot see, without loving those whom we can see? |
1) Congregational Meeting – Sunday June 22,
2008
Following the worship service on Sunday,
June 22, 2008, there will be a short congregational meeting to update the congregation
on the progress of the restoration and renovation work on the West Tower of the
Church and other parts of the church buildings.
Please plan to join us for this meeting.
PLEASE
NOTE – the recommendations that the congregation will be asked to consider can
be read by going to http://www.standrewstoronto.org/renovations.htm
2) Sunday School Picnic – Special Thanks to
Jack and Bev Reynolds
The kids, parents, teachers and friends of
the Sunday School enjoyed a wonderful afternoon at the home of Bev and Jack
Reynolds. As well as enduring thunder,
lightning and hail, we enjoyed a wonderful barbecue lunch and great fun in the
Reynolds’ backyard pool (after the rain!).
3) SAGA Picnic at Hanlan’s Point – June 27,
2008
Everyone
is invited to attend a summer picnic with the members and friends of SAGA,
which will take place at Hanlan’s Point on Toronto Island on Friday, June 27,
2008. The group will meet on the Toronto
side of the ferry dock at 6 pm to take the 6:15 pm ferry to Hanlan’s
Point. SAGA will pay for the ferry
fee. If you miss the boat, please take
the 7:00 ferry and meet the group at Hanlan’s Point.
Please
call Robert Sheng at 416-269-7828 or 416-879-8685 to let him know if you are
planning to attend and what picnic food you will be planning to bring.
If
it is raining at 5:30 pm and there is no hope of it stopping, the picnic will
take place in the Great Hall at St. Andrew’s.
All
are welcome – and prayers for good weather are welcome as well!
4) Ordination of Matthew Ruttan
We will be celebrating Matthew’s ordination
as a Minister of Word and Sacraments on Sunday, June 29, 2008 at 7:30 pm. All are welcome – and encouraged – to join us
for this important and wonderful celebration.
5) Presbyterian World Service and
Development Appeal for China
As we have been doing for the past few
Sundays, we will be including special appeal envelopes in this Sunday’s
bulletin in order to help to raise funds for Presbyterian World Service and Development’s appeal for the
earthquake victims in China. All
donations that are received will be matched by funds from the Canadian
government. Please give generously.
7) Faces of Faith – Stewart Moracen
Stewart
Moracen joined the St. Andrew’s congregation, as a member, last Sunday. He also recently joined the church staff to
help with church officer duties. We are
pleased to welcome Stewart to the St. Andrew’s community, and are grateful for
his wonderful contribution to the “Faces of Faith” feature – please click here!
