“The
Real Tragedy”

There
are those who say that the greatest tragedy of our world is a lack of love.
Such
a sentiment is understandable.
When
we consider the wars that are being waged, even now; when we realize that
innocent men, women and children are dying of preventable diseases, even now; when
we remember the atrocities that are committed, in the name of political
ideology, or racial superiority, or religious purity, even now; when we
contemplate the inequality between the rich and the poor, the haves and the
have-nots, the strong and the weak, even now; when we ponder the ways that
human life is exploited, degraded and demeaned, even now; we can understand why
some lament the lack of love in this world.
Of
course, maybe a lack of love is not the real tragedy.
Maybe
the real tragedy is that the One who was the fullness of God’s love walked
among us, and tried to teach us how to love.
And
we killed him.
